Marcia Erskine worked for the Jamaica Gleaner before starting her own Public Relations business in 1992 in Kingston, Jamaica. Her firm Marcia Erskine & Associates Ltd has provided services in corporate marketing, community relations, education and varied areas of society. To walk with Mrs. Erskine, whether you are in Jamaica, Atlanta, or the U.S is to hear someone say, “Mrs. Erskine, Mrs. Erskine!!!” It is no wonder that she is referred to as the “Guru” of Public Relations.
In April of 2014, a group called Bethel Town and Neighboring Communities Association needed help to stage a Health Fair in rural Jamaica, Mrs. Erskine, when asked, agreed to help and performed services pro bono. Of course, with her help it was a success. Mrs. Erskine also performs services for the University of The West Indies and travels every year for The Annual Gala of AFUWI. AFUWI is the American Foundation of the University of The West Indies. Over the past decades, AFUWI has provided scholarships and grants and has funded many special projects to help further the development of the University of The West Indies. Patrons of this organization AFUWI include Dr. Harry Belafonte, singer of “Daylight Come and Me Want Go Home.” Nobel Prize winner in Literature and Poet Laureate Derek Walcott, and Former Secretary of State Colin Powell. Former Mayor of New York David Dinkins is also a regular attendee.
Mrs Erskine is married to an amazing man with two children. She is blessed with a son in law who made the Emory Alumni Association’s “40Under Forty” inaugural list and gives back to his community.
Although Mrs Erskine has lived in Jamaica for a number of years you can hear still hear a twinge of the “Trini” accent. She is the consummate professional and is never without her winning smile.
